Ingredients

Custard mixture
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup milk Any kind works (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1-2 teaspoons sugar or maple syrup Optional; usually included for sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
Bread
  • 4 slices thick bread (brioche, challah, Texas toast, or thick sandwich bread) Thicker slices are preferable
For cooking
  • Butter or cooking spray For greasing the air fryer basket

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 370°F for about 3 minutes.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, sugar, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  3. Lightly grease the air fryer basket with butter or cooking spray.
  4. Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture for about 10 to 15 seconds per side, ensuring they are soaked but not falling apart.
Cooking
  1. Place the soaked bread slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket without stacking them.
  2. Air fry for 6 to 8 minutes total, flipping them halfway through. The ideal cooking time is about 3 to 4 minutes per side, aiming for golden edges.
  3. Once done, let the French toast sit for a minute to finish setting before serving.

Notes

Use thicker bread to prevent drying out. Always grease the basket to avoid sticking. Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat in the air fryer for about 2 to 4 minutes.
